Avaricious George MacAllister convinces his girlfriend, Carlotta Novak, to marry his wealthy brother, Barry, because he has been diagnosed with a terminal illness and hasn't long to live. Barry, who has long admired Carlotta, defies family advisers and, on his own, proposes to Carlotta. Delighted that his plan is in motion, George gets involved with a gangster's girlfriend, which throws a wrench into his plans to get the family fortune.
