Emile Ardolino's last film before he died of an AIDS-related illness at the age of 50 is a delightful interpretation of Tchaikovsky's ballet. Maria is the little girl who is escorted through various fantastic realms by the Nutcracker Prince. The rest of the cast come from the New York City Ballet, whose interpretation is spectacular.
