Responding to a distress signal from inside a Dyson Sphere, the crew rescues Montgomery Scott from his ship's transporter buffer. Missing for 75 years, Scott feels out of place on the Enterprise-D, but the ship needs his help to escape the sphere.

After suffering a total memory blackout, the crew read what files they can recover from the ship's damaged computer and discover that they are at war.
