After the death of her boss, White House staffer Linda Tripp is moved to the Pentagon where she meets Monica Lewinsky. Paula Jones decides to sue the President for sexual harassment.
Hopeful of resuming West Wing work, Monica keeps her affair secret through the 1996 election, despite Linda's interest. Meanwhile, Paula Jones is promised empowerment against the President.
Tensions rise between Monica and the President, Paula is offered a settlement, and Linda begins to feel that she has a target on her back.
August 1997. To marry her `moral outrage' with material reward, Linda becomes an agent provocateur. An emotional Monica feels isolated and desperately let down, so Linda pushes her to seek Bill Clinton's help securing a new job through his friend Vernon Jordan. Linda starts to illicitly tape her near-nightly phone conversations with Monica.
As Monica prepares to leave Washington, D.C., she grows concerned that someone is sharing news about her affair, and Linda meets with the FBI.
The Office of the Independent Counsel ensnares Monica Lewinsky, holding her for 12 traumatising hours in a hotel room.
