The celestial duo are allowed to masquerade as lawyers who deal with gritty real-life situations, but with the proviso that they cannot become emotionally involved with humans. In the first episode, Zak and Tom arrive in York and, very soon afterwards, the peace of the city is shattered by a shocking act of violence. The two lawyers find themselves plunged into the middle of a court case involving an estranged family and a newlywed. Zak also discovers that his past has come back to haunt him in the shape of his former flame Hannah, who is working for Zak's old adversary and nemesis Richard Pembroke. Pembroke is fiercely determined to derail the angels' plans to influence the lives of humans, but can Zak and Tom keep him at bay?
