All the planet's energy resources have been exhausted. The Halo company, headed by Mr Kavanagh, is drilling in the Arctic. Greenland is home to the last untapped oil deposits. The drilling on a Greenland glacier causes it to collapse.

Ben discovers that drilling creates hot hydrothermal springs under the ice. Mr Kavanagh does not want to hear it. He comes to the site and orders the drilling to continue.
