Lisa's maddening struggle to get her parents into the car for the five-hour drive to her brother Marco's home in LA, evokes old memories of a fraught family car trip. Back then it was her dad who kept secrets, now, it is the whole Giordano clan.

Trapped with the coats in the back of the car, Lisa broods over her soon-to-be ex-husband, Bill. Tano's encounter at the airport has him wondering if he could be a father while Marco bonds with one of his employees.

Lisa face plants in front of a car, narrowly avoiding disaster and making a new friend. Aldo gets lost in memories of being the unwelcome other, only to find his cranky inner bigot. Tano and Nisha show up at Marco's with a surprise guest.

Ella enters a German-speaking fugue state that has her in mid-1940s Germany, amidst a family dynamic even more tense than that of the Giordano's. Aldo is pulled over and comes dangerously close to being arrested.

Lisa ducks out early from the big family dinner to go on a date with a guy she met at the airport. But she cannot stop thinking about the first time she met Bill. It is almost as if he were there, which he is when she comes home the next morning.

Marco cannot stop thinking about his estranged brother Dino. Lisa is stuck on what could still be with Bill. Tano has a surprise in his back pocket: it is Ella who shocks everyone when she collapses at the absolute worst moment.
