Detective Tess Avery leaves the force after nearly getting her partner killed. Struggling with her blindness, she uses the EyesUP app to connect with Sunny Patel, a seeing-eye guide in New York City. Together, they investigate the abduction of a young mother, while each woman grapples with her own secrets and limitations. As they hunt for the abductor, Tess and Sunny learn to trust each other.

When a victim from one of Tess' old cases awakes from a coma, Sunny pushes Tess to pursue new leads despite being off the force. Tess' ex-partner, and his new partner, dismiss the case, but Tess links it to a notorious unsolved murder. Meanwhile, Sunny, struggling with her own issues, reveals her financial troubles and her fear of leaving her apartment to reconnect with her estranged husband.

Tess joins Jake's investigation to identify a dead John Doe, battling her fears for her brother Lucas' safety and her passion for solving cases. She resists traditional vision loss training from Mia, relying instead on Sunny's remote help until a crisis and Matt's advice make her reconsider. Meanwhile, Sunny receives divorce papers after missing a date with her estranged husband.

Jake suggests Tess talks to Superintendent Bennett about returning to the force, but he only offers her a desk job. Determined to prove herself, Tess investigates an unsolved murder linked to a delivery van to bring justice to a neglected victim. She reluctantly accepts cane navigation lessons from Mia but relies on Sunny until a cut-off disrupts her during a date with a potential killer.

With Tess now back on duty, a new case hits close to home for her, and is Sunny's first 'on the books' case. Mia offers her unexpected skills to the case and a shaken Matt sees a new side of Tess, leading to an unexpected moment between them. Meanwhile, Sunny's DIY project goes wrong, leading her to let her concierge Kye into her apartment, which reignites her fears.

Lucas shows up at Tess' apartment late at night, prompting Tess to suspect something is wrong. Her fears are confirmed when she finds clues at a crime scene that suggest Lucas might be involved in the murder of a famous painter. Torn between protecting Lucas and her loyalty to the Homicide Division, Tess keeps quiet and uses Sunny to monitor Lucas with a nanny cam while she investigates the case.
