In 1966 London, 12-year-old Bernie Reubens plans a bar mitzvah to outshine his older brother Alvie's and finally have his moment. As his father struggles to save the family business and the nation obsesses over the World Cup, Bernie's big day shrinks. When England advances to the World Cups Final, held on the same date, Bernie fights to keep the celebration that means everything to him.
