The Vampire Diaries

After the deaths of their parents, teens Elena and Jeremy Gilbert do their best to keep going. Elena has trouble concealing her grief, while Jeremy risks everything as he dabbles in drug use. Then new student Stefan arrives, and Elena realises that she is drawn to him, but she does not know about his strange origins.

While Mystic Falls gets ready for a festival, Vicki is recovering in hospital from the attack. Stefan visits in order to make sure she does not remember what happened to her, but his attempt to use his powers on her is cut short. Mr Tanner makes Aunt Jenna feel that she is failing as a parent to the Gilbert siblings, and Elena goes to talk to Stefan - but finds his brother Damon instead.

After seeing Stefan catch, Mr Tanner tries to persuade him to join the school football team. Bonnie tries to convince Elena that Stefan is not who he says he is, but Elena refuses to listen. Elsewhere, Damon continues to feed off Caroline, and Jeremy wonders where he stands with Vicki.

With the Founder's Park dance on the horizon, Elena asks Stefan to go with her, while Vicki persuades Tyler to be her date for the evening. Elsewhere, Damon reveals more of the Salvatore family's past to Elena, while Stefan tries to get his brother out of his life without exposing their secret, and Elena worries about Caroline's relationship with Damon.

Elena's relationship with Stefan is already going through a rocky patch when she discovers some shocking stories about his past. Damon grows weaker as his imprisonment continues, and he tries to use Caroline to escape. Elsewhere, Bonnie's special powers manifest themselves, leaving her scared and confused, and Logan uses Aunt Jenna to further his secret agenda.

After Elena demands that he explain the terrifying events that have been taking place in Mystic Falls, Stefan tells her the story of his past, including how he became a vampire. Meanwhile, Damon decides to take charge of Vicki's future, and in her fear she runs away. Elsewhere, Sheriff Forbes, Mayor Lockwood, Logan and the others put plans in place to protect the town.
