Saburou is sent back in time and meets Nobunaga Oda, who turns out to look just like him; brilliant but shy, Nobunaga asks Saburou to take his place.

Saburou earns a reputation in Owari for being a fool; Yoshimoto Imagawa's spy, Denjiro, attempts to infiltrate the Nobunaga family as a retainer.

Saburou meets Nobunaga's feared father-in-law, Dousan the Viper, leading to a surprising development.
