Having given up on life, 15-year-old Hatori Chise sells herself at an underground auction; she is bought by Elias Ainsworth, a not-quite-human mage, who intends for her to be his future bride.

Chise and Elias travel to London to buy few things and meet some of Elias' friends.

Two sorcerers try to stop Chise and Elias from cleaning up corruption.

Elise and Chise are hired by a church to investigate a black dog.

Alice sees Elias' changes and decides that he could never be human. Sorcerer Cartaphilius, who is trying to capture the black dog by manipulating Renfred and Alice, makes Elias show a completely different side of himself when his "work" hurts Chise.

Chise, a 15-year-old orphan girl, gives herself up for auction and is bought by Elias, a mysterious sorcerer with demonic leanings who makes her his bride.
