S1, E1: In the year 2090, the Space Battleship Macross that once saved Earth has turned into a city monument, and the human race now enjoys prosperity alongside the Zentran. However, a war between the Extrasolar species Marduk and the U.N. Military breaks out unexpectedly. Hibiki, a TV reporter, heads to the battlefield to capture scenes of the war. Amid the chaos, Hibiki manages to get into the enemy's battleship and encounters Ishtar, a beautiful young girl in a slumber.
