Yozo was shy as a child, and in his teens he drowns himself in alcohol and women. He and a woman plan a double suicide, but only he survives. He finally finds stability with the pure-hearted Yoshiko, but the hell-raising Horiki sends Yozo back into self-destruction. This film is based on Osamu Dazai’s 1948 novel.
