Brooklyn-born Philip Anthony-Rodriguez began working as a child actor in the mid-1990s, appearing in small roles in Manhattan-set television series, including two turns on the venerable "Law & Order." His film debut came in the 1997 culture-clash boarding school drama "Academy Boyz," but his breakthrough role came in the 2003 science fiction TV series "Jake 2.0," in which he played second banana to the title character (Christopher Gorham), a computer technician who accidentally becomes a high-tech superhero. In 2008, he joined the cast of family drama "The Secret Life of the American Teenager," playing the district-attorney father of lead character Adrian Lee (Francia Raisa).
