My Fair Lady
A catastrophic illness can break people apart or bring them closer together. Yoo Geum Bi (Heo Jung Eun) is a spirited 8-year-old girl who suffers from Niemann-Pick Disease Type C (NPC), a rare genetic condition that makes her body unable to properly metabolize cholesterol and other lipids. The condition is often referred to as “childhood Alzheimer’s” because of the rapid mental and physical deterioration that accompanies it. When the only “aunt” she knew deserts her and believing her mother, Yoo Joo Young (Oh Yoon Ah), is dead, Geum Bi tracks down Mo Hwi Chul (Oh Ji Ho), the man she was told was her father. Hwi Chul is a conman who works with Go Gil Ho (Seo Hyun Chul) and Heo Jae Kyung (Lee In Hye) on elaborate schemes to scam people. When Hwi Chul is sent to prison on his first criminal conviction for dealing in forgeries, Geum Bi gets him out of prison by testifying that he is her only living relative who needs to take care of her. Hwi Chul is dumbfounded to learn that he has a daughter and initially has no interest in raising her, but Geum Bi is determined to change his crooked ways. When they meet Go Gang Hee (Park Jin Hee), a woman who is still heartbroken over losing her younger sister years ago, she is drawn to the spunky Geum Bi and Hwi Chul and ends up taking them in when they have nowhere else to go. When those around her find out about Geum Bi’s rare condition, what will they do? “Oh My Geum Bi” is a 2016-2017 South Korean drama series directed by Kim Young Jo.
