Ambitious DI Joseph Chandler is assigned an open-and-shut case, the killing of a woman in the East End of London. Get a quick result, he is told, and you will get the promotion you have been waiting for. Unfortunately for him, however, things don’t turn out to be so straight forward. The investigation quickly runs out of suspects until Edward Buchan, a renowned Ripperologist, draws the police’s attention to the similarities between the Jack the Ripper killings in 1888 and the modern-day murder that Chandler is investigating. The race begins to catch the copycat killer before he strikes again.

As the witch-hunt continues the killer remains one step ahead of Chandler and Miles. With two bodies already in the morgue and a third person missing, the team are up against it, not only to save the next victim, but bring the killer to justice and for Chandler, to bring the killer in alive. The team investigate strange symbols appearing on Whitechapel buildings, unnerving spinsters and necrotic body parts, but will Buchan's unusual discoveries in the case files prove that there really is witchcraft in Whitechapel? With the station still brooding beneath a sinister force, the team try to overcome their personal demons that are suddenly at the fore; mysterious footsteps echoing in the corridors, ominous phone calls, demonic reflections - will this lurking evil prevent them from catching the killer?

The final act begins – the Ripper must kill one more victim to complete his re-enactment of the 1888 murders. Chandler is near to breakdown as he struggles to find an answer. Forensics and CCTV are useless, and the team is forced to rely on its instincts, hoping that the past will provide some clue to the killer’s identity. But time is ticking away, and history tells us that Jack the Ripper was never caught.

After the killings which mirrored Jack the Ripper's slayings, local history expert Buchan suggests that there may once again be a copycat killer at work - this time, the deaths seem to recall crimes committed by the Kray twins in the 1960s. Miles and Chandler refuse to believe Buchan's theory because the Krays both passed away years before - but is Buchan on the right path? As the investigation becomes more intense, the members of the team find themselves delving into some very dark places, and DI Chandler must tackle his personal demons if the police are to solve the case.

The second series of the gripping and atmospheric police drama concludes. With the body count rising and nothing tangible to pin on the twins, the police are left with no option but to take on Jimmy and Johnny Kray at their own game. Time is of the essence - can Chandler manage to apprehend the twins or will the streets of east London continue to run with blood? Chandler realises that if the team are to catch the twins, they will have to go underground, so they move to a secret location and come up with a cover story to mask their investigation. Taking a leaf from the twins' book, the police begin using the methods of Nipper Read - the man who took down Ronnie and Reggie Kray - before the case reaches a shocking conclusion. Meanwhile, Chandler starts to think that alcohol can help with his OCD, but he may just be adding to his own troubles. Miles finally discovers the truth about his father's death.
