Astrid Bergès-Frisbey

Astrid Bergès-Frisbey is a French actress and model, best known to American audiences for her role in "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," the fourth movie in the "Pirates" franchise. Born in Barcelona, Spain, Bergès-Frisbey moved to France as a child, and is fluent in French, Spanish, and Catalan, the Spanish dialect. She got her start on French television in 2007, appearing on three episodes of the crime series "Sur le fil," before making her film debut the following year in the French drama "The Sea Wall," co-starring as the daughter of "la mère," played by powerful French actress Isabelle Huppert. Bergès-Frisbey continued landing French film roles, primarily as central characters, through the end of the decade. And then in 2011, following her central part in actor-director Daniel Auteuil's romance "The Well Digger's Daughter," which Auteuil also starred in, Bergès-Frisbey landed her first English-speaking role in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" blockbuster. She earned the part of Syrena the mermaid after a hectic process of multiple auditions ranging from Los Angeles to Europe, before being selected by director Rob Marshall and producer Jerry Bruckheimer. Bergès-Frisbey's modeling work, meanwhile, which didn't commence until her acting career was well under way, has included her appearance as the face of a French Connection clothing campaign.
