Toronto Film Festival, 2018. 14-year-old May becomes the third wife of a wealthy landowner in the countryside of 19th-century Vietnam. She understands that the only way to move up the family hierarchy is to give her husband a son. What she doesn't know is that her hidden desires will force her to choose between living safely and being free.
