Hokusai is a talented painter, but he still lives on the brink of poverty. One day, he is discovered by the popular ukiyo-e publisher, Tsutaya Juzaburo. Hokusai lost confidence as painters like Utamaro and Sharaku gained popularity, but Juzaburo pushed him to find his unique voice, allowing his talent to flourish. Then, Hokusai learns that his friend, playwright Ryutei Tanehiko, has been killed by the government after refusing to comply with their ban on his work.
