In the mid-Heian period, Mahiro is born to a couple leading a modest life; one day, Mahiro meets Saburo and open up to each other without knowing each other's true identity; they make a promise to meet again.

Mahiro becomes 15 years old and she finds fulfillment in her work as a substitute writer; Michinaga is serving the court as an official; Michinaga's father Kaneie plots to depose the emperor and strengthen his rule.
