The French football coach is killed by a poisoned dart and his expensive diamond ring disappears. Ambitious police chief Dreyfus assigns his worst inspector to the case, Jacques Clouseau. Dreyfus intends to divert the press while he uses his best men to chase the criminal. However, when Clouseau is nominated for the highest prize in France, Dreyfus seeks to humiliate and strip him of his title.
