Ted is in a quandary after meeting an activist, Zoey, who wants to save a landmark building that is to be torn down and replaced by the new GNB building that Ted is designing.

Ted is repeatedly turned down by his dermatologist Stella for a date and starts being pleasant to her receptionist Abby to show Stella his nice side. Elsewhere, Abby becomes interested in Ted, Ted finally manages to get a two-minute date with Stella, and Abby sleeps with Barney.

Ted's friends try to help him woo his perfect woman from his college days but Barney and Robin spoil his big chance. Will he still get his girl? Elsewhere, Marshall reads a letter that he wrote as a teenager with a list of things that he wants to achieve as an adult. Marshall tries to rectify his life choices but is overwhelmingly disappointed in the career he's chosen.
