بعد أسابيع مرّت على حمل "ميريديث" وإجهاضها للجنين، تخبر هذه الأخيرة "ديريك" ما حصل معها ويُسمح لها أخيرًا بالعودة إلى الجراحة بعد أن تعرّض المستشفى لاعتداء إطلاق نار. أمّا "كريستينا" فتتعرّض لاضطراب ما بعد الصدمة في خلال عمليّة تجريها في حين ترفض "بايلي" السماح لـ"آليكس" بالعودة إلى ممارسة عمله وإجراء الجراحات قبل أن ينزع الرصاصة من صدره.

عندما يؤدّي انفجار قنبلة إلى قتل خمسة ضحايا في خلال تظاهرة، يكتشف (كاسل) و(بيكيت) أنّ حلّ القضيّة يكمن في سلسلة الأحداث التي حدثت قبل الانفجار بسبعة وأربعين ثانية. باللجوء إلى الشرائط المصوّرة والاعتماد على أقوال الشهود، يكشفان النقاب عن حقيقة زرع القنبلة المفاجئة.
