The cautious lion cub Kio is the son of Summer, queen of a powerful pride. One day he may rule his own kingdom, but first he must learn to survive.

After a narrow escape, 12-week-old Kio must earn the respect of his older brothers if he's ever to survive - and one day become a king. Just as he finally finds his place among them, disaster tears the family apart.

After a desperate search, Kio and Summer reunite with the brothers - but life on the fringes of the pride's territory is unforgiving. As Summer struggles to hunt for her inexperienced sons, the demands of survival begin to take their toll.
