Like a biblical epic, WWII saw the very existence of humanity brought down to the wire in a tale of good vs evil. The First World War was a catastrophe for Germany. Huge casualties affected morale, shortages and starvation plagued the home front, and on November 9th 1918, after a series of mutinies by German sailors and soldiers, the Kaiser had abdicated and fled the country. The following day, a provisional government was announced, made up of members of the Social Democratic Party and the Independent Social Democratic Party of Germany, shifting power from the military. With peace declared and the Kaiser gone, Germany needed to establish a new constitution that would move the country forward after accepting responsibility for World War One.
