Evan Helmuth

For over a decade, actor Evan Helmuth had trouble getting his big screen break. Though his first film part came in 1999 in the obscure independent comedy "Self Storage," it would be six years before he had a prominent part in a widely-seen film. In the meantime, he starred in a number of short films, performed a few minor television guest parts and voiced villain William Dresari in the 2000 PC action game "MechWarrior 4: Vengeance." He finally connected with audiences in the 2005 romantic comedy "Fever Pitch," playing a friend of Jimmy Fallon's Boston Red Sox-obsessed character. More television work was soon forthcoming, with Helmuth appearing as an EMT on the crime drama "NCIS" and in a memorable turn as a murder suspect on the longrunning "CSI: NY." Serious screen parts continued to elude the actor until 2012, when he was cast as Father David Keane in the exorcism horror film "The Devil Inside." The independently produced movie was made for under a million dollars and was subsequently picked up by Paramount Pictures, which was eager to capitalize on the success of its "Paranormal Activity" franchise with more cheaply profitable horror films. Released to scathing reviews, "The Devil Inside" was immensely successful, earning over $60 million worldwide and raising Helmuth's profile.
