In their first major starring vehicle, dance titans Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers star in this smash hit musical romantic comedy along with Irene Dunne and Randolph Scott. Based on the wildly popular 1933 Broadway musical by Jerome Kern and Otto Harbach, the film showcases the equally splendid dancing of Astaire and Rogers and features the now-standard songs "Lovely to Look At," "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes," and "I Won't Dance," among others. Dunne plays deposed White Russian Princess Stephanie, who has become a famed Parisian couturier. When Stephanie's partner passes away, half of the business is inherited by her nephew, an American football player (Scott) who knows and cares nothing about gowns. Astaire stars as bandleader Huck Haines, and Rogers rounds out the cast as a phony Polish countess who is Haines's former girlfriend. Lucille Ball has a small role. The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Song.
