The Bet

"Bernard, a teacher in the suburbs, lives with Victoria in a new urban development. Didier, a wealthy Parisian pharmacist, is married to Murielle. One drives a rusty 205; the other, a black Mercedes. They are brothers-in-law and hate each other's guts. Over dinner, Didier and Bernard make a bet: to stop smoking for a fortnight, until the next family get-together. The gauntlet is down, their hell begins. The first days go off like a dream, both are on top of the world. Addicted no more. But things quickly turn sour. Didier and Bernard find it harder and harder to resist the temptation. They become irritable, suspicious, they lie... Until the fateful day: the family get-together.
