Although she does not want to celebrate her 36th birthday, Charlotte is persuaded to join the girls and Richard on a trip to Atlantic City, where she gets herself a racy red lipstick makeover. Meanwhile, Samantha notices that Richard is paying more attention to the well-endowed casino croupiers than her and concludes that she deserves more out of a relationship than a few lavish gifts.

During a double date, Charlie becomes annoyed with Alan for constantly borrowing money and promising to pay the tab "next time." When Alan leaves Charlie with the check after dinner, Charlie tries to beat him at his own game. Meanwhile, while the men are out, Jake gets to see what it's like to be home alone.

While Patrick Jane and FBI agent Kim Fischer investigate the murder of an anti-fracker protester at on a drilling site in Texas, in Austin Rigsby and Van Pelt are investigating the recent string of attacks on CBI team members.

In the 6th season opener, Charlie runs into an ex-girlfriend (Rena Sofer) and a child who bears a striking resemblance to Charlie.
