After being sent out of town with Jane to investigate a murder, Lisbon follows a lead on her own, which leads her right into Red John's snare.

When Jane is kidnapped, Lisbon and the team delve into the past in the hope of finding a suspect, only to find that their colleague has an extensive list of enemies.

The team investigate when a fund-raising party for a new musical is interrupted by a dead body falling from a balcony and landing on top of a car. Meanwhile, Jane waits for the only man who may be able to identify Red John to regain consciousness.

The list of Red John suspects has been narrowed to three and the CBI concentrate their full focus on finding out which of them is the serial killer. Jane thinks that he knows, but the truth will uncover a bigger lie.

Jane comes close to establishing a solid link between Bret Stiles' Visualize cult and Red John, as he and Lisbon investigate three murders from the eighties.
