At his family's war camp, Lord Tywin Lannister butchers a stag and discusses their house's situation with his son Jaime Lannister, who reads Lord Ned Stark's order for Tywin to appear at court. The patriarch reprimands his son for attacking Ned in the streets and explains how important it is to free Tyrion from the Eyrie: `Every day that he remains a prisoner, the less our name commands respect'.

After the capture of Ned, Syrio and Arya confront Lannister guards whilst Cersei uses all the power of manipulation on Sansa.

Tyrion arrives in King's Landing to counsel Joffrey; Stannis Baratheon plots an invasion to claim his late brother's throne; Daenerys and her three dragons search for allies and water; Bran presides over a threadbare Winterfell.

Tyrion gains new responsibilities, Jon is taken to the Fist of the First Men, Daenerys meets with the slavers, and Jaime strikes a deal with his captors.

Theon incites his men to action, Luwin offers advice, Brienne silences Jaime, Arya receives a gift, Dany goes to a strange place, and Jon proves himself.
