The Knick

When Dr John Thackery takes his place as a leader of surgery staff, he is pressured by hospital benefactors to hire Black assistant chief, Algernon Edwards, who is determined to learn all he can from Thackery.

Thackery directs Barrow to deliver more cadavers, while Edwards opens a covert basement clinic and is later forced to stand his ground when he has a confrontation with a neighbour.

Thackery is asked to perform reconstructive surgery on a former flame and Barrow steals a corpse from a hospital morgue in order to make some money. Later, Algemon's patient dies and he starts a fight in a bar.

Algernon angers Eleanor when he forces Thackery's hand during surgery, a recovering Abigail regrets her past choices involving Thackery, and Cleary and Sister Harriet strike a deal.

Barrow seeks to pay down a debt by treating one of Collier's wounded men, and also tries to convince Captain Robertson to purchase a new Edison invention. Meanwhile, Edwards finds himself focused on improving on a hernia surgery.

Thackery and Bertie vow to reverse a series of operating theatre failures after finding success with a new procedure. Meanwhile, Cornelia helps Speight track down a typhoid carrier and Edwards finds his clinic, and his career, in jeopardy.
