The true story of Private 1st Class, Desmond T. Doss, a WWII Army Medic, who because of his moral and spiritual beliefs refused to handle or carry a weapon of any kind. Against his will he was classified as a Conscientious Objector, a designation considered as cowards or political dissidents, by society of that time. For his stance he was maligned, physically abused and ostracized by his superior officers, who tried to drum him out of the Army. In spite of these challenges, Desmond persevered and went on to become one of America's great war Hero's. On the battlefield Doss exemplified valor in such manner that his fellow soldiers refused to go into battle without Desmond first asking God's blessing. During the battle for Okinawa, Doss rescued 75 of his fellow soldiers in a battle so fierce survival was virtually impossible. For his unselfish heroism he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.
