The Teahouse of the August Moon

1945. Just a few months after the American victory over Japan, the United States military sends habitual screw-up Captain Fisby (Ford--The Courtship of Eddie's Father) and native translator Sakini (Brando--A Streetcar Named Desire, On the Waterfront) to the conquered island to bring Western civilization to the local people. But from the moment Fisby arrives--and the townspeople present him with Lotus Blossom (Machiko Kyô--Rashomon) as his personal geisha--it's clear who is going to win the battle of cultures. Now, as Lotus Blossom teaches geisha lessons at the Ladies' League for Democratic Action, the United States military faces its first defeat.
