The Crowd

Separating yourself from the crowd is no easy task, as John Sims (James Murray) soon discovers. Having lost his father at a young age, John sets his sights on New York City where he plans to make it big - something he regularly dreamed about with his late father. In his twenties, John fulfills his dream of moving to the Big Apple and finds work in an office, but major advancements will prove difficult. Encouraged by a co-worker to go on a double date to Coney Island, John meets Mary (Eleanor Boardman) and by the end of the evening he proposes to her. The stresses of everyday life quickly complicate the whirlwind romance, as John and Mary must cope with a number of rising concerns as they get married. Mildly melodramatic, this silent movie by King Vidor displays the complications faced by many couples.
