In MINNAL MURALI, Jaison (Tovino Thomas) is a tailor in a small Indian village who dreams of finding success in the United States and leaving behind the provincials who laugh at him. When Bincy, the love of his life, spurns him and gets engaged to a man Jaison regards as inferior, he falls into a deep depression, heightening his desires to leave India even more. During a freak thunderstorm resulting in a rare alignment of the planets, Jaison is struck by lightning. He soon discovers that he has superpowers. When his niece learns of these powers, she tells Jaison about the superheroes of comic books, and how they fight for truth and justice against formidable enemies. He dons a costume and humiliates the bullies in the police force of the village. However, a man named Shibu was also struck by lightning, and has discovered that he has powers of his own. Angered that he's unable to marry the love of his life due to her strict father's dislike of him, Shibu begins taking revenge and committing crimes while trying to frame Jaison. Meanwhile, the police are trying to figure out who this superhero is who humiliated them, and why their behavior seems to go back and forth between good and evil acts. When Jaison and Shibu discover that they are the ones with the superpowers, Jaison must find a way to stop Shibu, who has descended into madness over his heartbreak, from destroying the village and all who live there.
