Michael Reaves

Over the course of his career, Michael Reaves has written, story-edited, and produced almost 400 teleplays, primarily in the science fiction and fantasy genres. Reaves had aspired to be a writer since he was a boy, growing up on a steady diet of gangster, monster, and Western movies. As a young man, Reaves wrote short stories, to little avail, until he was accepted in 1972 to the Clarion Science Fiction Writers' Workshop in East Lansing, Michigan. Upon completion of the program, Reaves moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in writing. His first credit came on the live-action children's TV show "The Secret of Isis." From there, Reaves' career took off. Throughout the 1980s, he was involved with a number of sci-fi and fantasy shows, including an impressive 63-episode stint on the iconic cartoon "Smurfs." He won an Emmy for the 1992-93 season of "Batman: The Animated Series," and was nominated for the same award a year later. Reaves was also the writer for numerous feature length films, both animated and live action, including 1993's "Full Eclipse," starring Mario Van Peebles. Several of the pillars of 1990s sci-fi and fantasy have had some contribution from Reaves, as he was involved with writing for "Star Trek: The Next Generation," "Sliders," and "Swamp Thing," among many others.
