Stella Meghie

Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, Stella Meghie came from a family of Jamaican transplants who settled in Brooklyn and Canada. After a time working in PR in New York, Meghie shifted gears in 2010 and decided to study screenwriting at the University of Westminster in London. While in school she began to develop the screenplay of a dysfunctional Jamaican-American family. Funded largely by Telefilm Canada and shot mainly in Toronto, "Jean of the Joneses" (2016) had its world premiere at the 2016 SXSW Film Festival in the Narrative Spotlight category. The film led to comparisons with Woody Allen in addition to deals with established Hollywood studios and networks. It was announced that Meghie would direct "Everything, Everything," an adaptation of the YA novel by Nicola Yoon. The film was set to be released by MGM in 2017.
