When a shocked teenager finds a dismembered body laying in pieces in a strange purple pool of water, Brennan and Booth come to the scene only to find the victim's head is missing. With help from Brennan's newest grad student, Wendell, the team discovers the body is that of Jared Addison, a 25-year-old science fiction writer who suffers from OCD and a crippling fear of germs. With Sweets' psychological insight into Jared's perfectly regimented world, Booth and Brennan track down a number of suspects including Jared's psychologist, his much older girlfriend and his science-fiction book publisher, all of whom have good reason to want Jared out of their lives. However, without the victim's head, the team struggles to find enough evidence to locate a killer – that is, until they receive insight from Zack, who studies the case from afar at his psychiatric facility with case information provided to him by Hodgins. Meanwhile, Brennan scolds Booth for not letting her ever fend for herself.

The milestone 100th episode of BONES takes viewers back in time six years as Brennan and Booth recount the first case they worked on together. With Sweets finishing his book on their partnership, Brennan and Booth take this opportunity to set the record straight. A young and rebellious FBI Agent Booth seeks the help of an team of anthropological scientists and a street artist to find the evidence that will prove his high-profile suspect guilty. Although in unfamiliar territory, Dr. Brennan, her grad student Zack (guest star Eric Millegan) and Hodgins get right to work, impressing Booth with their knack for uncovering new leads and substantiating his theory about a well-connected district judge. While the case cements a foundation for a successful future partnership, it also reveals the convoluted romantic beginnings of the formidable duo – whose feelings for each other almost destroyed the team but still linger years later.

Everyone is a suspect when a body is found murdered at a popular nightclub known as “The Lab.” In an unusual twist of storytelling, Brennan, Booth and the Jeffersonian team take on various roles outside their normal duties, including serving as the nightclub staff as well as local law enforcement. A slew of special guest stars, including Max Keenan (guest star O’Neal), Jared Booth (guest star Fehr) and the members of Mötley Crüe, pay a visit.

The Final Chapter of BONES picks up where last season’s cliffhanger left off – Brennan kidnapped by her former assistant, Zack Addy, as Booth and the rest of the lab desperately search for her. Brennan’s rescue is, however, just the beginning of their problems.

In the series’ penultimate episode, each leading character’s final story begins to unfold. Brennan testifies for Zach in trial, Angela reveals some big news, while Aubrey and Jessica come to terms about their future together. All the while, the team discovers Kovac has escaped, leaving Booth in a race against the clock to protect himself and those closest to him from what may be Kovac’s most dangerous plan yet.
