Hale Isaac Appleman was born in New York City. After enrolling in Carnegie Mellon University's School of Drama, Appleman began acting professionally, making his screen debut with the dramedy film "Beautiful Ohio" (2006), costarring William Hurt and Rita Wilson. Next, he landed a role in the cult favorite satirical horror film "Teeth" (2007), and continued on with films like "Pedro" (2008) and the "Romeo and Juliet" reimagining "Private Romeo" (2011), in which he played multiple parts. After landing a recurring part on the popular but short-lived musical series "Smash" (NBC 2012-13), Appleman nabbed his first starring role on the fantasy series "The Magicians" (Syfy 2015-). Appleman played Eliot Waugh, the hard-drinking student of magic.
