Robert Wieckiewicz

A student of the State College Theatre School in his native Poland, actor Robert Więckiewicz has performed in an extremely impressive number of films since graduating in 1993. After appearing in a handful of small parts throughout the 1990s, he gained national fame with the top-billed role of Robert "Cuma" Cuminski in the 2004 crime flick "Vinci." This heist-gone-wrong comedy follows art thief Cuma and his attempt to steal the iconic "Lady with an Ermine" painting by Leonardo da Vinci. Więckiewicz nabbed the honor of Best Actor at the 2007 Polish Film Festival for his portrayal of Andrzej, a compassionate physical education teacher who helps a young boy cure his mother's illness in the family drama "All Will Be Well." In 2009, he earned another Polish Film Award for his supporting role in the surreal comedic drama "How Much Does the Trojan Horse Weigh? ." But Więckiewicz didn't gain international attention until his leading role in the World War II drama "In Darkness," about a once selfish man who hides Jewish refugees in the rat-infested sewers for more than a year to protect them from the Nazi occupiers. Among many prestigious accolades, "In Darkness" was nominated for the 2012 Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film of the Year.
