Nobody has ever been convicted for the murder of Anni Nielsen Iranzo; her daughter, 4-year-old Maria, was the only witness; she is now 48 years old, and has has never been able to wipe out the memories of what she saw that day.
The day after the murder, bloody clothes are found; the police ask the victim's husband to give them names of women he has been in relationships with, and discover that one of these women stayed at a hotel in Oslo during the week of the murder.
A crime scene tech goes through the box of evidence that was discovered in the basement of the Oslo police headquarters; the other women on the list Enrique Iranzo gave to the police, tell their stories; there are cracks in the police's theory.
Maria looks into the leads that were overlooked by the police and she discovers a confession letter written by a drug addict who claims to have come to the Iranzo home in a search for drugs; a mysterious jacket is found in the evidence box.
Maria, Erik and George ask the police to hand over the evidence to the family, because they want to have it tested for DNA; the family hires an attorney to deal with the situation as they wait for the police prosecutor to reach a decision.
Maria is on her way to England, where the laboratory will tell her what they have uncovered; Maria asks for help from the Oslo police and receives important -- and surprising -- news from Minna Thompson's lawyer.
