A terrifying reinvention of the master George A. Romero's 1973 horror classic where a mysterious toxin in the water supply turns everyone exposed to it into mindless killers. In a small Midwestern town the American Dream is going horribly wrong. The residents of the picture perfect town are going more than a little crazy as they succumb to an uncontrollable urge for violence. As the horrific bloodshed escalates into anarchy the military use deadly force to close off access into or out of town, abandoning the remaining few healthy citizens to the growing mayhem. Sheriff David Dutton (Timothy Olyphant), his pregnant wife Judy (Radha Mitchell), Becca (Danielle Panabaker), an assistant at the medical centre, and Dutton's deputy Russell (Joe Anderson), find themselves trapped in the once-idyllic town they can no longer recognize. Unable to trust former neighbours and friends, they band together in a nightmarish struggle for survival.
