Adrian Johnston

Adrian Johnston is an award-winning musician and composer who has created memorable scores and soundtracks for over 50 films and TV shows. He began playing the piano at a young age and pursued his musical ambitions while attending Edinburgh University. After graduating from college Johnston performed with several bands, including The Waterboys and the novelty rock group The Mike Flowers Pop, who had a hit Christmas single in 1995. The following year he traveled to silent film festivals around the world, providing live accompaniment on various instruments. In 1995 he earned his first screen credit when he provided music for an episode for the British serial drama "Performance." The following year, a chance meeting with director Michael Winterbottom on the set of the romantic drama "Jude" paved the way for a professional relationship that saw Johnston compose music for a number of Winterbottom's films, including "Welcome to Sarajevo" and "With or Without You." Johnston has provided music for a wide variety of films, from the drag queen shoe comedy "Kinky Boots" to the Jane Austen romantic drama "Becoming Jane." He has also worked on numerous TV programs, including the BBC TV movie "Sherlock Holmes and the Silk Stocking" and such series as "The Street," "Exile," and "Zen," each of which featured its own distinct mood. In 2002 Johnston won a BAFTA award for his work on the A&E cable movie "Shackleton," and won again in 2008 for his score of the BBC drama "Capturing Mary."
