When Martin is talked into taking baby James to playgroup, he is forced to sing along with the other mums, and Al helps Ruth move into a cottage in the village where she meets her new neighbour, a grumpy old man called Moysey.

Louisa prepares to leave for Spain; Bert and Jennifer's engagement party goes off with a bang; Al is hailed as a hero for saving Caroline's life.

Ruth has a mystery admirer who unnerves her; Louisa is Bert's least favourite person when one of her pupils writes a damning review of his restaurant in the school magazine.

Martin's mother comes back to Portwenn, and a case of asbestos exposure causes mass panic. Bert has a question for Jennifer, who fears she may have to leave.
