The judges welcome a fresh batch of home cooks to tackle creative cooking challenges in order to win a spot in the Masterchef Australia 2017 competition.

The bottom three contestants must impress Gary in preparing his roast chicken dish to progress to the next round.

Eliminated contestants are given a second chance to get back into the competition. Only one of the 12 can secure their way back into the MasterChef kitchen.

The participants must create a savoury meal in one hour, including the element of fire. Meanwhile, the two contestants who come last in the competition partake in a cooking challenge to escape elimination.

The top 24 face their first mystery box challenge. The bottom four cook off in an elimination challenge, resulting in one contestant being sent home.

An immunity challenge has contestants under pressure to use ingredients from the mystery box in a race against the clock.
