Emily Arlook

Steady work in character roles for independent comedy projects like "20 Dates" (1998) helped provide a boost for actress Emily Arlook to progress to mainstream TV work, which included a starring role in the sitcom "grown-ish" (Freeform, 2018-). Born Emily Taryn Arlook in Los Angeles, California she was the daughter of talent and literary manager Richard Arlook and his first wife, Deborah. After training at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, she made her film debut opposite her father - playing himself - and sister Rachel in the independent comedy "20 Dates" (1998). Appearances in independent features and short projects preceded her first series regular work on "Sh---y Boyfriends" (2015), an online comedy series produced by Refinery29. The following year, she made her writing debut on "Home" (2016), a parody of the theatrical trailer for the Oscar-winning "Room" (2016) for the Funny or Die site. From there, Arlook graduated to guest roles on network series, including "The Good Place" (NBC, 2016-) and "Hand of God" (Amazon, 2014-2017) before signing on as a series regular for "grown-ish," a college-set comedy spun off from ABC's popular "black-ish" (2014-).
