Nick Hamm

Born and raised in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Nick Hamm's first love was the theater. After receiving his B.A. in English and Philosophy from the University of Manchester, he relocated to London and immediately immersed himself in the city's thriving theater scene. After making a name for himself directing numerous smaller plays, Hamm became the resident director at the prestigious Royal Shakespeare Company. It was during his tenure as resident director at the Royal Shakespeare Company that Hamm had the opportunity to work with some of the most celebrated playwrights of the era, including Howard Barker and Arthur Miller. After having spent several years in the theater, Hamm was feeling a deep desire to transition into film directing. By the late 80s he was directing documentaries, short films and television shows, thus additionally making a name for himself as a screen director. His first bit of success came in 1992 when he earned a BAFTA for directing the short film "The Harmfulness of Tobacco" (1991). Over the course of the next several years Hamm would go on to direct a number of celebrated films, including "The Very Thought of You" (1998), "The Hole" (2001), "Godsend" (2004), and "Killing Bono" (2011) and "The Journey" (2016). In addition to directing, by the late 2000s Hamm also delved into television producing. Some of the more notable shows he produced included "Rogue" (Audience, 2013-17) and "Full Circle" (Audience, 2013-). In 2018 Hamm directed "Driven," starring Judy Greer and Lee Pace. The film, a biopic about the beleaguered auto industry executive John DeLorean, had its world premiere at the 2018 Venice Film Festival. In 2019, Hamm directed the pilot and three subsequent episodes of "White Lines" (Netflix, 2020), by Alex Pina - a series about a Mancunian DJ who mysteriously disappears in Ibiza. In 2020, Hamm formed Free Turn, the London-and L.A.-based entertainment company with his brother Jon. In 2021, Hamm directed and produced the feature film, "Gigi & Nate." The film follows a young man who finds hope in an animal friend after a freak accident leaves him paralyzed. As of 2022, Hamm is in pre-production on his next feature - a historical epic set in Switzerland, Wilhelm Tell.
