As a young Muslim man in America, Ramy struggles with dating and relationships. He is shocked when he has a date with an aggressive Muslim-American woman.

Ramy drops out of medical school to work at a tech startup, on an app called Snack Swipe. His parents don't think it will ever work and urge him to go work for his uncle, who will teach him how to be a real man.

Ramy starts his new job and becomes interested in a Jewish American girl, to the frustration of his friends. However, when he refuses to do drugs with her, she hooks up with another guy.

Ramy remembers how his friendships changed because of the September 11th attacks and his Muslim faith. After he is shunned, he takes a different route to school and meets Stevie, who becomes a longtime friend.

Ramy intends on being fully faithful for the 30 days of Ramadan, including only eating after sunset and before sunrise, and abstaining from sex and pornography. Then Ramy meets a married but lonely Muslim woman, and winds up having sex with her.

Dena experiences misgivings about her status as a virgin. After discussing it with her friends, she decides to talk with the local barista from the coffee bar she frequents.
